Position Summary

The RPG Developer III plays an important role in the organization by performing a number of activities related to the companys Information Technology functions.
The role is primarily responsible, with limited direction, for the design and maintenance of application database architecture in RPG and CL in an AS400 environment. The RPG Developer III participates in user discovery sessions to document business requirements, diagnose problems, and understand requested enhancements, translating findings into technical designs.

Essential Functions
* Develop and maintain applications for existing systems on a variety of technical platforms in RPG and CL in an AS400 environment.
* Participate in systems design sessions with users and Business Analysts to develop complete specifications that capture impact of changes on all applications, systems, and databases.
* Create and use binding directories, binder source, prototypes, prototype interfaces, private and public procedures, appropriate activation group usage, and service programs.
* Apply knowledge of data centric architecture, design, programming, and performance to update programs and resolve problems.
* Apply knowledge and manage projects using DB2 and i SQL .
* Assist the Application Support Desk team with troubleshooting and resolving application system errors.
* Identify and pursue new and evolving technologies; evaluate potential impact to the business and provide Management with insight and recommendations.
* Demonstrate a high level of personal commitment and accountability to the business with a focus on quality and customer service.
* Work in a team environment, and communicate positively with team members, peers, customers, and vendors.
* Provide time tracking and project feedback data.
* Lead planning and/or implementation of department projects.
* Use expertise to answer questions from less experienced teammates.
* Respond to escalated inquiries and problems that cannot be resolved by more junior teammates.
* Support new hire training and work closely with less experienced employees.
* Participate in the creation of training materials and job aids, as well as any new rollouts or updates.
* Work to distribute application knowledge throughout team.
* Complete technical research and analysis and share findings and possible solutions with team.
* Review the output of junior-level teammates, and provide subsequent assessments and recommendations to Management.
* Create templates and models used by less experienced teammates.
* Provide analysis and work on special initiatives and projects from the Chief Information Officer.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
* High school degree preferred, along with a minimum of five years total hands-on RPG programming and development experience working on multiple projects of high complexity, preferably in the financial services or mortgage servicing industries.

* Expert knowledge and fluency with:


All aspects of ILE and CL

Binding directories, binder source, prototypes, prototype interfaces, private and public procedures, appropriate activation group usage, service programs

DB2/i database, i SQL (DDL, UDT, UDF, Triggers, Constraints), along with data centric architecture, design, programming, performance

Software/DB modernization, analysis, design, and construction including application of modern DB, OO, and modular software concepts and patterns

RPG III/IV/ILE/400/FREE/Imbedded SQL, Procedures and Service Programs

FTP, and Secured FTP

Supervision
* Low supervision of work, depending on experience
* Strong independent judgment and discretion used in decision-making; uses sound judgment in executing core job responsibilities

Requirements
* Physical: Mobility in an office setting; mobility in an office setting.
* Manual Dexterity:
Frequent use of computer keyboard and mouse.
* Audio/Visual:
Ability to accurately interpret sounds and associated meanings at a volume consistent with interpersonal conversation. Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio; e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media.
* Environmental:
Office environment no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
