Position description

The patient care associate assists patients with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care, which support nursing practice under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. The patient care associate carries out designated activities that are within those functions limited by law to unlicensed nursing personnel. This includes assisting patients with activities of daily living, providing basic nursing care to patients and assisting in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Assists RN with procedures and treatments that require competence in advanced technical and manual skills.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.

Additional qualifications

Minimum of six months healthcare related experience preferred.

Flexibility (works flexible hours, which include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends). Basic computer skills. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Verbal and written communication. Promotes team building. Self-directed. Able to adapt to unpredictable situations.

License or certification

Certified Nursing Assistant on State of Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry (required to be in “non-expired” status upon hire).

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for the Healthcare Provider or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or will obtain prior to hire.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $14.36 per hour.

This is a supplemental position, hours varies based off of department need. Will be scheduled at least 16 hours/4 weeks, one shift will be on a weekend. Rotating shifts.

Position description

Essential Functions: Assembles charts: admission, transfer & discharge. Uses registration system to enter data for admissions, transfers & discharges. Communicates patient information to appropriate team members: nursing, other departments, providers. Completes appropriate forms: computer, consents, paper documentation forms. Obtains records, charts, lab and x-ray reports via computer/ or paper chart. Performs receptionist functions with patient’s relatives and staff. Assists nursing staff as delegated in performing patient care activities according to established policies/procedures. Measures and records vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respirations and temperature. Assists with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) including mobility, elimination, and nutrition. Assists in the proper lifting of patients utilizing Gait belt and/or E-Z lift as indicated. Documents patient cares in accordance with documentation guidelines (i.e., intake, output, height, weight, vital signs, flowsheets, comfort levels). Participates in departmental activities and pursues ongoing education programs to maintain and develop skills. Provides care appropriate to the age and ability of patients served. Maintains a clean and safe environment including equipment maintenance and setup. Helps in maintaining and organizing supplies and equipment. Practices Relationship Based Care Skills. Demonstrates knowledge of unit care standards. Completes all organizational/departmental requirements and education.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.

Additional qualifications

Successful completion of a health unit coordinator program or comparable experience (preferred). Current CHUC certification (preferred).

Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Basic computer knowledge and skills. Ability to multitask, work well under pressure and meet deadlines, demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, writing and listening skills. Ability to work effectively in a team setting. Knowledge of medical terminology. Flexibility (Works flexible hours, which include days, evenings, and/or nights, holidays, and weekends). Self-directed. Able to adapt to unpredictable situations.

License or certification

Certified Nursing Assistant on State of Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry (required to be in “non-expired” status upon hire; recommended to regularly renew certification). Current BLS Certification.
