Patient Care Type: This unit specializes in medical oncology. The unit provides inpatient and outpatient nursing care to adult patients with solid tumors. In addition EI44-43 is a designated inpatient Mayo Hospice unit. Patients may be hospitalized during various stages of the wellness/illness from initial diagnosis through active treatment, recovery, or through end of life.

Nursing Team Roles: Specific patient care services include chemotherapy, symptom management, blood transfusions, antibiotic therapy, infusion therapy, central line care, teaching, discharge planning, and emotional support. The Mayo Nursing Care Model is the nursing care delivery system.

For new grad nurses: All newly graduated Registered Nurses with less than 12 months of practice experience, hired into a scheduled FTE Registered Nurse position on the Rochester campus of Mayo Clinic are automatically enrolled in the Nurse Residency Program. A separate application or enrollment process is not required. All nurses new to Mayo Clinic, regardless of experience, will receive an extensive orientation program.

The Nurse Residency Program at Mayo Clinic’s campus in Rochester, Minnesota, is a yearlong training program that provides you an opportunity as a newly licensed nurse to develop your leadership skills and receive support during your transition from student nurse to competent professional nurse. The Nurse Residency Program will run concurrently with traditional unit orientation as designed for the unit new grad nurses are hired into.

Position description

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.

Qualifications

Student or Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN- formerly NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least one year of RN experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required. If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is required or, effective October 1st, 2017 one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.

All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after September 1, 2010, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.

Additional qualifications

One year RN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

License or certification

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida: Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

The PDL role embodies our medical mission in becoming a trusted, agile partner who engages in relevant dialogue and delivers timely, high impact data and insights that advance the science or accelerate access, optimize medical practice and drive appropriate adoption of BMS medicines. The PDL role is field-based and it is anticipated that an PDL will spend a minimum of 60-70% of their time in the field with external customers.

The primary role of the PDL is to develop relationships and maintain contacts with pathology Healthcare Providers (HCP), other diagnosticians and reference labs within their healthcare system. The PDL will act as a clinical and scientific resource responsible for the delivery of scientifically-based information in support of approved oncology products and the accompanying diagnostic testing information. The PDL will provide scientific education to pathology HCPs on the role of diagnostic testing for PD-L1 and other assigned biomarkers, and the role this testing plays in relation to immuno-oncology agents.

Responsibilities

External Environment and Customer Focus

Develop and maintain peer-to-peer relationships with critical stakeholders including thought leaders (TL), and other HCPs specializing in oncology, immuno-oncology, and pathology. The PDL will use various channels for interactions (1:1, group presentation; remote, etc).

Demonstrate proficiency in using available scientific resources and presentations. Effectively present information to TLs, HCPs and reference labs and be able to respond to questions, ensuring medical accuracy and compliance with local procedures, ethical and legal guidelines and directives.

Actively assess the medical landscape by meeting with TLs, HCPs and reference labs to understand their needs and expertise. Continuously update own knowledge in treatment strategies, products, unmet medical needs, and diagnostic testing. Understand the competitive landscape and actively prepare to address informational needs of customers.

Collect and provide meaningful medical insights and/or impact by communicating these back to the medical and commercial organizations to be actioned in support of strategy development.

Identify opportunities to partner with HCPs on disease state initiatives, collaborative research projects, and investigator sponsored research (ISR) of interest and in alignment with BMS strategic objectives

Support clinical research activities that include complex specimen procurement/processing, translational medicine, and biomarker/diagnostic components

Contribute to the Medical Plan

Adopt institution/account planning approach and contribute to cross-functional institution/account plans, as applicable.

Required Experience

Position description

The patient care assistant assists patient care unit staff with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care, which support nursing practice under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. The patient care assistant carries out designated activities that are within those functions limited by law to unlicensed nursing personnel.

Qualifications

Must meet at least one of the following four qualifications to be considered: Successful completion of the Acute Care component (NA1602) of the Nursing Assistant Program taught at Rochester Community and Technical College (and various other colleges) within the last five years.
