A Day in the Life

The Environmental Test Technician II position is an entry level position whose major purpose is to support the North Haven Laboratory Services Environmental Group. This includes but is not limited to: bioburden testing, maintaining sterile laboratory supplies, glassware and instrument cleaning via laboratory dishwasher. The Environmental Test Technician II will also support sterilization cycle review and operate laboratory equipment, such as the autoclave. The North Haven Laboratory Services Department located in Connecticut directly supports manufacturing locations worldwide. The Environmental Technician II works both individually and as part of a team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

* Follow standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and gain certification through on the job training from team leader.
* Perform bioburden testing.
* Perform product sterilization reviews on different sterilization cycles, from both in-house and contract sterilizers in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
* Perform washroom duties, which entail emptying the contents of glassware, blenders, etc. of contents and to wash them via laboratory dishwasher.
* Daily maintenance of laboratory organization and cleaning in the wash room, stock room, and other laboratory areas.
* Utilize the autoclaves, and other equipment in the laboratory for the sterilization of instruments, glassware.
* Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of the laboratory incubators.
* Monitor, drain, and clean laboratory water baths.
* Catalog and dispose of scrap product and testing samples.
* Provide assistance to the other Environmental Specialists as needed.

MUST HAVE: Minimum Requirements

* High school diploma required.
* Minimum 2 years of previous wet lab work experience required.
* Proficiency with aseptic technique and pipetting. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
* Listening, Demonstrated Communication Skills (both written and verbal), Organization, Time Management, Planning Skills, Reliable and Responsible, Capable of Independently Working.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE :

The Environmental Test Technician II position reports directly to the Senior Specialist, Environmental Group. The Environmental Technician II will have frequent contact with other Environmental Analysts and other specialists within the North Haven Laboratory Services Department. The work performed by the Environmental Test Technician II will directly affect both corporate, divisional, and plant functions in a work related capacity.

A Day in the Life

You will:

Perform required purchasing tasks to procure assigned parts, materials, supplies, equipment and services required for operation of business.

Contact suppliers, obtains and evaluates quotations, places orders, and ensures timely delivery. Exercises judgment and knowledge of assigned commodities to make purchases consistent with specified levels of quality, delivery, and price. Negotiates contracts as needed to purchase material and services.

Maintain commodity responsibility from receipt of requisition, placement of orders, change orders, receipt of parts, acceptance of parts to stock, disposition of discrepant material through the life of the product.

Perform follow-up operations with suppliers to accomplish delivery of purchased items per schedule. Expedites delivery of critical material.

Ensure requisitions, purchase orders and changes are input into system and documented in a timely manner in accordance with established procedures and legal requirements.

Develop capacity plans for assigned items. Determines when additional sources of supply are needed. Identifies and develops plans to qualify additional sources.

Serve in a liaison capacity between appropriate company personnel and supplier representatives to ensure suppliers are equipped with the needed tools, materials, and specifications, and to obtain solutions to problems.

Maintain and reports purchasing measurements which indicate buyer and supplier performance.

Advise manager in a timely manner of impending supplier failure to fulfill contractual agreements or of any other problems that may delay production, after exhausting all means within limits of delegated authority to solve such problems.

Analyzes marketing forecasts, BPCS requirements, capacity constraints, and material availability in order to plan assigned manufacturing production schedules. Evaluates and responds to product mix changes.

Analyze special build requests; initiates limited non-standard work orders, and provides necessary material for builds, rework, or special customer sales orders.

Open required jobs and releases all necessary pull sheets to stockroom for issuance of components to production staging areas.

Determine priorities for all stockroom pulls to insure timely receipt of raw materials by the appropriate production group.

Monitor in-process production and disposition of completed work orders; investigates and reconciles material variances prior to requesting work order closure.

Verify corrective action to prevent production non conformance and the control of further processing or delivery of product until the deficiency is corrected.

Evaluate end of month production and work in process reports for re-planning and reporting purposes.

Perform data base maintenance as required, to order modifiers and process control codes.

Lead major re-plans done with each Quarterly Latest Estimate of the budget, and rolling these up to the family level for presentation purposes.

Evaluate and project implementation dates of Engineering Change Notices and Temporary Deviation Authorizations, when released, and effectivity dates of components.

Review overall integrity of proposed engineering changes (ECNs/TDAs); supplies required information necessary for disposition of material and rework.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline or equivalent combination of related education and experience plus 3-5 or more years experience with purchasing components, commodities, services, and planning

Effective written and oral communication skills needed to deal with the technical and interpersonal aspects of the position.

Effective negotiating skills.

Effective planning and organizational skills.

Fundamental knowledge of products purchased, good purchasing practices and policies, Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Small Business Administration, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Applications, and contract law.

Knowledge equivalent to and/or receipt of ISM or APICS certification.

Demonstrated knowledge and ability to use common software tools for spreadsheet and word processing tasks.

Knowledge of production and material, production control, and inventory planning, word processing software, and main frame database.

Ability to analyze quantitatively the forecast and production plan numbers in order to understand the manufacturing and marketing of products.
