The Position:

We are looking for a high energy Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to join the team at our landfill in Rosemount, MN. Previous waste experience would be a huge plus!

Responsibilities include:
* Performs repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services. Performs inspections, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment. Several pieces of yellow iron currently on site. (compactors, Dozers, excavators, mowing tractor, motor grader, Haul truck and a few pick up trucks)
* Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
* Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns. Breakdowns may occur on the working face of the landfill.
* Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
* Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
* Reviews, completes or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
* Performs maintenance related work as required.
* Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
* Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
* Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
* Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
* Work environment may be indoors in a shop, or outdoors to repair equipment on the landfill. Usually well-lighted and ventilated. Sometimes necessary to work in awkward or tight positions and to handle greasy or dirty tools. These factors require following basic safety precautions.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* Minimum 1 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
* Must provide own personal tools. Welding/fabrication experience a huge plus!

Kieffer Sanitation has an immediate position open for a Diesel Mechanic to work on our fleet of trucks at our Rapid City, SD location

Duties / Responsibilities:
* Performs repairs and maintenance on heavy duty diesel trucks as well as other District vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations. Typical repairs include, but are not limited to, routine maintenance and repairing engines, chassis and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, wheels and tires.
* Reads and interprets VCRs (vehicle condition reports) and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or driver for clarification of problems. May discuss preventive techniques with drivers to minimize future repairs.
* Occasionally makes emergency road calls to make repairs on trucks that break down while driving a collection route.

Skills / Attributes Required:
* Must be knowledgeable of and capable of performing repairs in a safe, effective and timely manner.
* Minimum 1 year experience working on Medium / Heavy Duty Trucks
* Strong experience in diagnostics and electrical is helpful
* Must be able to communicate effectively, read and comprehend service and technical information.
* Must have own set of basic tools as is standard for mechanics.
* Must currently have or able to obtain a class B commercial drivers license within 120 days of employment.
* Must currently have a valid drivers license with excellent driving record.
* Able to sustain a steady work pace over an entire work day.
* Must be able to lift 75lbs.

Position Summary:
Diesel mechanics repair trucks, buses, and other equipment. They also diagnose problems with diesel powered engines, inspect, repair, or overhaul anything with a diesel engine as well as keep up-to-date records. This position involves in shop repairs as well as road service repairs.
Key Responsibilities:
Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections/diagnostic tests; identify worn and damaged parts.
Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
Comply with federal/state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshoot breakdowns; maintain supplies; perform preventive maintenance; call for repairs.
Contain costs by using warranty; evaluate service and parts options.
Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Test drive vehicle to ensure it is running smoothly.
Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other parts of vehicles.
Adjust and align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and attached system components.
Follow a checklist of inspection procedures
Routine maintenance to include: changing oil, checking batteries, lubricating equipment and parts.
All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Valid driver license
5 years of experience
High school diploma or equivalent
ASE automotive certification
